413: Twenty Twen-TV
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) dig through the dumpster fire that was 2020 to find every gay silver lining they can.
So much LGBTQ content was thrown our way in the last year and we are so here for it. We discuss The L Word: Generation Q and how even in a reboot the L Word continues to show only toxic and hyper-sexualized queer relationships. We sift through the queer TV and movies and pick out the good from the bad in representation. We discuss the issues with constantly seeing cheating, poorly redeemed characters (*cough* Catra), unhealthy relationships (looking at you Villaneve), and poorly done coming out stories (Harper, why?). We also dive into the more positive representation like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Schitt’s Creek, Teenage Bounty Hunters, and The Wilds. We talk about the many period pieces given to us (do filmmakers think that lesbians only existed in the 1800s?). We also talk about The Prom and how good it could have been if it was actually about lesbians instead of focused on Meryl Streep. If it was queer in 2020, we probably talked about it.
