SBG 60: Bridgerton with Krü Maekdo
Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) sit down with Krü Maekdo (@krumaekdo), founder of the Black Lesbian Archives, to talk about why Bridgerton Should’ve Been Gay. This show gives us all of the elements of what could be an epic lesbian storyline and then does not deliver on it.
We all know Eloise is gay. They’re really not even trying to disguise it. Between her relationship with her “best friend” Penelope, her obsession with Lady Whistledown, and her general attitude of indifference towards men, it really couldn’t be any more apparent that Eloise is a whole baby gay. Look, she cuts her own bangs. Need we say more?
We talk about “best friend” Penelope and how while she is a bit better at hiding it, she is also very much a lesbian. They even use the popular ‘brother as a stand-in love interest’ trope, but we know better. We also talk about Queen Charlotte and the convenient lack of a King; she’s totally hooking up with Lady Danbury and you can’t tell us otherwise.
